Freja

Freja is an OATH server with extensions to take advantage of shared authentication schemes such as the UK Government EAS Scheme. Typically OATH devices are less expensive than their proprietary counterparts.

Freja extends the use of EAS to facilitate local network logon. It effectively translates between local network and EAS user identities and draws upon both local directories and the Government Gateway attribute store in order to allow more granular access rights management to local applications and the local network itself. By use of the SOAP interface in Freja, EAS authentication can be extended to legacy applications or Single-Sign-On applications.

In cases where a group of local authorities wish to create a hub to share access to the Government Gateway, Freja supports a cascaded (or hierarchical) deployment model.

Finally, while primary authentication is externalised, Freja offers fall-back authentication through the local directory and/or OATH, thereby allowing the local authority to retain control of its users. From experience this has been a fundamental requirement for any local authority.
