New e-ID the key to Sweden’s digitalisation

Regulatory press release

Verisec is preparing the launch of an e-ID service which will enable Sweden to take the next big leap in the digital transformation. The new e-ID will welcome all user groups and will be linked to a wide range of digital services, both public and private, and also international services. To solve the crucial initial identity verification of users, an agreement has been made with the company ATG to do this through their nationwide network of 2 000 retail stores.

For the digital society to function everyone needs to be included, which in turn means that everyone needs to have a trusted digital identity. Passwords are neither secure nor practical and for many digital services they are no longer allowed. With the new e-ID service these passwords will be possible to replace with a mobile ID-application that is convenient, secure and accessible to all. And just as important is the fact that the service can be used by all companies, authorities, organisations and associations.

The Swedish government has, through E-legitimationsnämnden – the Swedish E-identification board – long been working for a variety of e-ID services and Verisec´s service is the first, thanks to the collaboration with ATG, to offer a nationwide solution for all Swedes to easily link their physical identity to the digital.

The service will from the start be prepared for secure access to many of the national and international Internet services Swedes use today. Provided that the service gets the certification Svensk e-legitimation (Swedish e-identification), new EU regulations also enables the e-ID to be used for identification to public services in the EU.

Katarina Widman, Sales Manager at ATG comments:
“Within ATG, we have the ambition to be at the forefront of the digital development and we see a great value in the creation of an e-ID for all. We also see e-ID as an opportunity that can reinforce our efforts against money laundering. We are proud that we, together with Verisec, are able to contribute in this important step in Sweden’s digitalisation. ”

Johan Henrikson, CEO Verisec comments:
“There is a need for an e-ID that is inclusive, scalable and international. The idea is not new, but so far no one has managed to solve the problem of providing smooth and nationwide identification process. Thanks to the cooperation with ATG we are for the first time able to provide the key necessary for Sweden to reach the government’s goal of becoming a world leader in harnessing the opportunities of the digitalisation.”
