Södertälje becomes the first municipality to choose Freja eID for employees and citizens Press release Published 19 February, 2018 IT security company Verisec announces today that Södertälje municipality has joined Sweden’s new electronic identity Freja eID. The agreement gives Södertälje the opportunity to offer a uniform solution for e-identification, for both citizens and employees, which facilitates the digitalisation of the municipality. Freja eID is an ecosystem of trusted digital identities. The service offers two levels of trust, a basic level where the user makes a self-registration and a plus level with higher trust in which the user must also verify his or her identity through physical identity vetting. This higher level – Freja eID+ – is approved by the governmental Swedish E-identification Board for the quality mark Svensk e-legitimation (Swedish Electronic Identity). A municipality may use the basic level for certain user groups such as students and the plus level for employees accessing the council’s network or for citizens who want to access e-services that require identification with a higher trust level. Fredrik Wellner, Infrastructure service manager and architect, Södertälje municipality, comments: “We will use Freja eID for identification of employees in our most sensitive systems, for the healthcare federation Sambi, as well as for signing documents. Freja eID can also be used to identify citizens, for example to enable people who cannot get a BankID to use the e-services we provide.” Johan Henrikson, CEO Verisec, comments: “Digitalising a business without access to scalable, cost-effective and secure e-IDs will not be possible, and we see a huge need for Freja eID among many of Sweden’s municipalities. A key factor in offering our solution is, among other things, that we have been able to solve the issue of large-scale physical ID vetting of users. We firstly do a remote ID control with our staff in our security center, and then the user visits any of the 2 000 Freja eID agents around Sweden, located at familiar convenience stores such as ICA, COOP and Willys. This is a key to Freja eID offering scalable e-IDs to Sweden’s public sector.” For more information, please contact: Johan Henrikson, CEO Verisec Mobile: +46 733 45 89 02 E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org Press release in PDF. *This is a translation of the quote made by Verisec, for the original quote please see the Swedish press release here.
