Freja eID+ one step closer to breaking Sweden’s dependence on a single e-ID

Press release

Seven authorities and municipalities have during the fall joined the new governmental System of Choice for electronic identification, 2017 E-legitimation, which gives access to Freja eID+ from Verisec. Among the affiliates are Arbetsförmedlingen, Bolagsverket and Tullverket.

In August 2018, Verisec signed an agreement with E-legitimationsnämnden (today a part of DIGG) to participate in the new System of Choice. This means that all authorities, municipalities and county councils can easily access anyone who issue e-ID:s and are included in the agreement, which is currently only Freja eID+.

During this autumn, the following has signed an agreement to enter into the System of Choice, 2017 E-legitimering: Arbetsförmedlingen, Bolagsverket, Umeå kommun, Hammarö kommun, Havs- och vattenmyndigheten, Tullverket and Kronofogdemyndigheten. The next step is that the authorities link their e-services to Freja eID+ so that the e-ID become available as an option on their website or in their app.

That these authorities are opening up to Freja eID+ is a big step to give citizens access to Sweden’s only governmental quality-labeled mobile e-ID and an alternative to the banking solution that has been dominant until now. On January 17, 2018 Freja eID+ was approved for the governmental quality mark Svensk e-legitimation.

Johan Henrikson, CEO Verisec comments:
”Sweden’s digital infrastructure is basically dependent on a single e-ID. This is not responsible because it entails huge risks for a country that is as digitized as Sweden. In addition, almost one fifth of all Swedes do not have access to the established e-ID, partly because they are not customers of a particular bank. Now there is no longer any reason for authorities to expose society to these risks or to shut out citizens from e-services. We therefore look forward to a quick connection of more authorities in the System of Choice, giving them access to Freja eID+. We will continuously inform about the authorities that join.”
