Svenska Spel chooses Freja eID as an ID method for online games

Press release

The IT security company Verisec has signed an agreement with the gaming company Svenska Spel, which means that Freja eID will be added as one of the identification methods for online games.

On January 1 this year, a new law was introduced that opens up the Swedish gaming market for new actors through a licensing procedure. Even those actors who previously had permission to conduct gambling activities, including Svenska Spel, are covered by the new rules. One of the requirements of the new law is that all online players must be registered with an eID or equivalent. As part of this, Svenska Spel has chosen to introduce Freja eID as one of the identification methods for Svenska Spel’s digital gaming services.

Freja eID is a mobile e-ID available in three levels of trust, of which the highest, Freja eID Plus, is approved for the governmental quality mark Svensk e-legitimation. Freja eID has, through an external partner, a nationwide network of authorized representative agents who can carry out physical identity checks in accordance with the requirements that DIGG – Agency for Digital Government have for issuing e-IDs with trust level 3.

Johan Henrikson, CEO Verisec comments:
“For some online services, the standard identification method is through eID, and then it becomes very clear that these service providers can’t be dependent on a single eID. As one of two mobile eID:s in Sweden, we believe that Freja eID will become a natural alternative for most online services in the long term. We also believe that our superior user experience makes us the natural choice for those users who value having control over their digital life.”
